Valentines Day

Here's a poem I wrote a few years back about Valentines Day.

Valentines Day

Although Valentines Day has finally arrived,
Products have sold (and businesses thrived)
For the two weeks prior to this well-known day,
With huge advertisements and promotions underway…
…Gifts of flowers, chocolates and love potions,
Innumerable hearts, and toys that sing.
But the mythology of "love" is a bit disturbing!
It seems rather juvenile (and really quite stupid!)
That love would be caused by a fellow named Cupid,
Who sits in the sky on a cloud that is narrow,
And shoots at our hearts with a bow and an arrow!
But as we acknowledge this "romantic day",
Let's not forget to bow our heads and pray,
And thank God for sending His Son from above,
To die for our sins…the greatest gift of love…
May we look past the gifts, candy and lust,
And show the world Christ, in whom is our trust.
